You can tell when a message came from a robot. So can they.
Subtext helps you say the hard thing clearly, warmly, and unmistakably in your own voice. Bring the draft, see how it reads, send the version that's still you.
Some messages you can't unsend
Here is one real message, start to finish, exactly as the app returned it. Tap any tag, version or note to see what it caught.
Tap a tag to see what Subtext caught
This is one real message run through the app. Every tag, explanation, version and note is exactly what it gave back. Tap anything.
Write your message. We read the tone.
Like a therapist for messages. We'll spot the emotions and triggers.
Reads the tone first
It marks the exact words that could feel harsh, passive or easy to misread, then names the feeling underneath. It watches for 48 kinds of trigger and reads from a vocabulary of 51 emotions.
look i really need u to stop sending voice msgs without any text... it freaks me out and u know that but u keep doing it anyway?!!
Bring it any way it comes
Cut your response time by 90%. Type a draft, paste a screenshot of the thread, or record a voice note. It reads the whole conversation and drafts your reply.
The composer just says "Write or ask me to...". A half-finished draft is enough.
Drop a screenshot of the thread. It reads the whole conversation, not just your line.
Talk it out instead of typing. It works with their voice messages too.
Thinks it through with you
When a message really matters, it stops and asks what you want to get across, then writes from your answer instead of guessing.
What should your reply get across most?
Fine-tune without prompting
No prompt writing. Tap shorter, warmer, more casual or add confidence, and it rewrites while still sounding like you.
Make it warmer and add empathy if necessary.
Make it shorter without switching the language of the message.
Sound more natural
Add light humor to soften. Avoid sarcasm at all cost.
Make it sound confident (but keep it empathetic if possible).
Different ways to say it
One message, three directions, side by side. Read the warm one against the short one and send whichever sounds like you.
You didn't do anything wrong. I just find it easier with a little text. I still love your voice messages, promise.
We're completely fine. It's a small thing that just helps my head. Nothing more than that.
All good. A quick line of text is all I meant. We're good.
Works in 17+ languages
It reads and answers in the language you write in, and it stays native, not translated. The tags, the explanations and the safe-to-send note all switch with it.

Loved.
Every one of these is a real review, pulled from the App Store and Google Play.
Like texting with a wise friend"This app helps me untangle my thoughts and say things just right. Kind, honest, and clear. A chill therapist who helps you find the words before you send them."
Lovely app!"I keep using tools like chatgpt and such but most of the times they feel robotic and soulless. With this app though, i'm able to put my thoughts into words in a way that actually feels like "me", just warmer, clearer and more thoughtful."
Saves me hours"I have ChatGPT pro, and this is wholly different. It edits, sums my ADHD, long-winded texts while retaining the substance with little direction. Saves me hours!"
Saved me an argument"It definitely words stuff better than I would have. Saved me an argument with the guy."
More nuanced than ChatGPT"This app is super helpful. More nuanced than ChatGPT. Recommended."
Couldn't figure out how to word something"I had a brain fart and couldn't figure out how to word something. This app was great."
Great for me since I'm neurodivergent"It's so helpful for sending messages to people without worrying about misunderstandings and tone. It's great for me since I'm neurodivergent."
Using it everyday"Great app for better communication. It helps me write clearer messages and keeps my personal style. Perfect for tricky conversations or when you need to get your point across just right. Simple to use and super helpful."
So easy and quick"I love the clean design and that I can record audio and just have the AI help me find the right words. Also super simple to edit and adjust to sound like me. It has made my life so much easier, can't do without it anymore lol"
Write without sounding like a jerk"Helped me to write without sounding like a jerk. Used subtext to write a message to cancel plans in a way that was honest and kind."
Things we wrote while building this
Long reads on why messages land the way they do, and what to do about it. Research, sources and all.

Why that text got to you
Three people can read the same message and have three different afternoons. What the research says about why, and what to do with it before you reply.
Emotions
Aphantasia: the feelings are real, they just don't stick around
About one person in a hundred can't picture anything. Their emotional lives are the best evidence we have for where a message's feeling comes from.

You Already Know the Standup Is Broken. The Hard Part Is Saying It.
A team of eight burns 460 person hours a year on a meeting the Scrum Guide says is not a status report. The evidence, and the experiment that gets a yes.
Questions, answered plainly
What is Subtext, exactly?
A writing and communication assistant for everyday messages, replies, and hard conversations. Write from scratch, paste a draft, or share a screenshot of a thread, and it shows how your message may come across, then helps you say it clearly, in your own voice.
Will it still sound like me?
That is the whole point. It starts from what you already wrote instead of generating a message from nothing, and it shows you how much it changed so you can pull it back. Nothing is sent for you either: you copy the version you want and send it yourself.
Is this just ChatGPT?
No. General chatbots write a message for anyone. Subtext is built for real conversations between real people: it reads tone and the context of the thread, keeps your voice, and lives where you write, on your phone and in your browser.
Is it only for texting?
No. People use it most for texts and hard personal conversations, but just as much for Slack messages, work email, feedback and follow-ups. If it is written to another person, it works.
Is this therapy?
No. Subtext is a writing and communication assistant. It does not provide therapy, diagnosis or medical advice, and its suggestions are not always right, so read anything before you send it. You know the relationship, it does not.
What does it cost?
Subtext is a paid subscription, billed through the App Store or Google Play. We run free trials from time to time, and if one is on you will see it before you subscribe. A trial rolls into a paid plan unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. The price is always shown before you subscribe, and you cancel from your store settings whenever you like.
Do I need an account?
No. Subtext works the moment you open it. Sign in when you want it on more than one device, or want your drafts back after you switch phones.
What happens to my messages?
They go to the AI that reads and writes them, and to our servers so you can come back to them later. Nothing else. What you send is never used to train an AI model, and it is encrypted on the way. Conversations delete themselves five days after you last used one, or ninety days if you pin it, and they follow you from your phone to the web in the meantime. Delete one yourself and it is gone straight away, attachments included. The privacy policy names every provider we use and covers the rest.
Does it work in my language?
Yes. Subtext works in 17+ languages, including German, Spanish, French, and Turkish, and it answers in the language you write in.
Say what you mean.
The next hard message doesn't have to take an hour.
Your drafts stay yours and are never used to train AI models. Privacy policy.
